Fishing report February 2019, Puerto Escondido Oaxaca

valentijn roosterAs agreed the fishing report of the past month. February was reasonable good with even a few outliers such as a rooster  from the beach in February by my buddy Ruben. The Rubylures are a fixed value in our tackle box, actually we are currently not fishing with any other lure. It casts  like a spear and you even catch a rooster in the winter with this kure, that should not be more. A negative “outlier” than: the lagoon of Manialtepec. Very tough at the moment, never was that bad in the past. The water is crystal clear, we get fake hits of nice snook but we do not manage to hook a fish. Even with the fly rod and with a reputable English guide nothing but misses, hopefully there will soon be improvement. Images say more than words so a short video about the beach, lagoon and kayak fishing can be found in this page. Levi from SurfandFishing Charters had satisfied biggame customers but also inshore he managed to find beautiful fish. His short films can be found here on his Facebook page, now the video fragments of the past month, probably in the future a 2-weekly fish report will br posted;  we try to bring better quality but active fishing and at the same time shooting videos and / or photos  requires exercise.

There is also more “pressure” on the C & R ( still a hot topic here), but improvement among the anglers is noticeable. The “professional” (poachers) on the other hand are still enjoying themselves, A closed group which even are threatening profesional fishing guides; I am not allowed to interfere with this because all that protected poaching has political ties and a foreigner can be expelled if he is involved in political struggles. Just today I received a good news item: Illegal net fishing tackled by CONAPESCA

Ruben and I also eat fish, but  taking a fish for your own consumption or killing hundreds of baby roosters with illegal nets to sell at dump prices makes a big difference. I now hope that CONAPESCA will continue on its own and make a clean ship.
