Big rooster with SurfandFishing Charters and Casa Blanquis

Captain Levi from SurfandFishing Charters has grown up as a fishing guide and does everything what’s in hi power to please the customer, he lives and fishes In Puerto Escondido and he knows the local fishing spots like no other. The higher fuel costs force him and the other local captains to raise their fee, more info via mail

Levi gives the big game fishing for sailfish and/or marlin a totally different dimension: when a sailfish or marlin is spotted, you get the opportunity to cast at it with a live bait and to catch your trophy fish yourself. So it’s not just trolling with heavy lures and reels, but it’s a game of searching, observing and having top sports on light gear. With live bait we always use circle hooks so normally every  fish can be released without any problem. Of course a good tuna can be killed and then prepared at Casa Blanquis, but all other species are released.

The inshore fishing is mainly based on roosterfish (pez gallo), cubera snapper (pargo), jack crevalle (frele), Spanish mackerel (sierra) with poppers, surface lures, stickbaits, Okuma rods with light spinning reels and 40 lb braided line. I can assure you that any attack on your surface lure guarantees unforgettable moments. Now, after six years of active fishing in Puerto Escondido, I am still amazed of the power and speed which a roosterfish or big jack can develop. In this short video you can see the power of these fish :

The big rooster in above video managed to break my 7/0 hook !

For the pargo, I now have 2 heavier rods / spinning reels to cast at the specific cubera snapper spots with big  poppers/stickbaits. Those super “goldfish” are almost impossible to stop and in “pargocountry” or at Roca Blanca, we switch to a stronger Penn rod with a Penn spinning reel and 80lb braided line. Break at the highest level and when a snapper hits the popper/stikcbait it’s bending or bursting, when you give a pargo the chance to dive into the rocks than it’s “game over”.
